Still sounds like your fuel octane is better than ours. I haven't seen anything over 91 octane at self-serve pumps for some time, although a few years back ISTR seeing 94 octane available at some stations.

1€ is currently about C$1.30. If we compare cheapest widely available fuel, your cost premium is

1.3 * ( 1.60 / 1.40 ), or about 49%.

For Viv, 1£ is currently about C$1.59. His premium:

1.59 * ( 1.40 / 1.40 ), or about 59%.

So, you guys pay 50 - 60% more for fuel. And, I believe Vancouver has amongst the highest prices in North America, so your cost premium compared to average North American is even higher.
