Since they're appointed for life it really wouldn't matter would it? Not like they'd have to do it "or else.." right? Plus I think they're vetted extremely well. I doubt any of them (at least any of them in recent times) were bought.
One thing I do find frustrating is that this branch of the government seems to end up deciding too many things. Seems like anytime a politician tries to get something done or pass some law it ends up as a court case.
