This has happened 3 times in the last 2 weeks to different files each time. There is nothing in the program that changes the file attributes. I can use, browse but not change or append a record. In the server administration the files show as read instead of read/write but noeone is flagged as using them in any special way. Even getting everyone to log out so no one is using the file resets the read only flag.

On occasion I'd seen similar sort of situation happen with Linux/Unix server whenever the ownwership of a file got changed and the umask setting caused the read/write/execute privileges for other users to be affected (in this case I looked at the umask to see what permission bits get masked out on file creation). Usually fixed the problem by chown to set the right owner and chmod to make sure permissions were set correctly.
