>>>We could do the same thing today, except that there may be a problem since there are many property owners who are women, black, native American, Catholic and Jewish. How about only rich white men can vote? Now who defines who is rich and who is white? :)
>>
>>And there'd be a lot of surprises on the latter... for as we say here, nothing is known - the corn is high and the fields are close.

>>As for who's rich, no problem - your vote should be proportional to the taxes you pay. The gov't is looking more and more like a corporation, so let those shareholders make the decisions. And for those stakeholders, I'd gladly have them hold the stake while I swing the mallet and hope to miss.

>Some of our rich (individuals and corporations) pay little or no taxes. I can recall when Howard Hughes was one of the world’s richest men. He paid his tax attorneys millions a year to reduce his taxes. They did an excellent job, and as an example, in the 1970’s (until his death) he paid $600 a year in federal taxes.

>General Electric and Exxon (and others) paid no taxes to the federal government.

>According to the Supreme Court, corporations are people.

Picking a nit here. Corporations are not people, they are made up of groups of people. Citizens who choose to work for an incorporated entity do not abandon their rights simply because of their job. Just like those who are self-employed or work for non-incorporated entities.

>So I guess that corporations should be allowed to vote. How about only those people and corporations that pay taxes get to vote, and the value of a vote is proportional to the amount paid? Then someone (Supreme Court) will have to decide on the dollar value of one vote. Perhaps a $million for a vote would be appropriate? So if you pay less than that amount you get a fraction of a vote. This could be fun!
