Yesterday I went to a presentation of GeneXus, a very exciting development platform.

Genexus is a code generator. At the core it is a very polished, very developer friendly business rule engine for RAD, which is developed with the AI language Prolog by the way. Genexus is in version 10, with over 20 years of evolution behind it.

Then the exciting part starts. It has available code generators for diferent languages and platforms: Java, C#, ObjectveC and even VFP plus others I don't know. The code generated will run in different plaforms with the look and feel typical of each: browser, iPad, iPhone, Android, Blackberry and they will eventually have a windows 8 generator. The goal of course is that the generators encapsulate the language expertise required rather than you having to acquire it.

I know that the write once deploy anywhere concept is nice but not fully true, but I'm captivated enough to want to give it a shot. Even my partner who is a lot more discerning than me got excited. We got a demo by someone who used to work with the developers of Genexus and for the last five years creates useful add ons for GeneXus, so he is quite knowledgeable with the tool.
