I think that valid of the control will not fire if you click outside the grid, which I'm guessing is why Ed suggested the BRCC.

>can not you put your calculation code in the grid1.column1.text1.valid? as you leave column1.text1 (assuming your grid1.column1 control is a textbox), the VALID will fire. BeforeRowColumnChange (BRCC) and AfterRowColumnChange (ARCC) can be a tricky. I use them both, but it took quite a bit of testing and fine tuning to get them correct, and i still have my fingers crossed.
