A ridiculous comparison. Seatbelts are not marketed as accident stoppers or preventers. They are marketed as a life-saving device in the event of an accident. i.e. they are a post-incident measure, not an incident preventative measure. AV is marketed as incident preventative measure. Your comparison is totally invalid.

Did you actually read my statement properly? Are you aware that there are perhaps as many as 20,000+ new variants of virus released each day, possibly much more with some estimates up in the 50,000+ range? Do you think signature matching will do the job? Or heuristic behaviour scanning? Or that black-listing is a viable avenue?

At best AV might protect you against some of the common threats (which are already old threats by the time the virus code has been analysed and a signature built and released for it) but that leaves you open to a vast array of possible malware. AV companies are always playing catch-up. The danger of AV is the false sense of security it gives the average computer user.

>Seatbelts are useless because they don't stop automobile accidents.

>>AV is virtually a worthless business. It cannot keep up with the changing malware landscape.
