>Tuvia, you know you are one of my favorite people here so hope you will take this as reasonable disagreement. I think sometimes the best answer is not the one that answers the question directly. As much as I have enjoyed working with FoxPro for the past 20 years (literally!), I don't think it's necessarily a responsible recommendation for new development in 2012. I would have to think long and hard before recommending that any company do that.

Most times it is best to ask why. Even if Einstein asks a question, he is human and may be on the wrong track.

I still can do more with VMP with less work than with other tools. I evolved VMP to a point where other tools have not reached - but I may be wrong. Everything is getting better. There are still several drawbacks. Many of us know a generator is bad for several reasons. Here's one: you can get far generating stuff, but then you get into trouble if you tweak something. You are then unable to add something to that form in the tool, because the next time you generate, you lose your tweak. Yet generators are still created. On the broader perspective, source control is not built in and transparent. Making tiny reusable bits is not required/enforced. What I call "tiny reusable" is smaller than what seems to be the case in most languages.

>>>Why purchase/learn a framework for an obsolete environment in order to do a major upgrade (upgrade to an obsolete environment)?

>>>Want to take time to learn a framework? Learn something current. Develop with a current UI on a (one or more) current platform(s) using a current database.

The plan is to make one last major upgrade, bringing the app into the 21st century with a better UI. I've taken a brief look at CodeMine, MereMortals, and ProMatrix. Of the three ProMatrix seems to be the only product with something of a user community, training videos, current updates, and a free version to play around with.
