>>>A lot of people in France would say that the language spoken in Quebec is not French :-/

>>>Many years ago a friend of mine was staying in Aix-en-Provence. She was watching a newcast on TV, where Rene Levesque (then premier of Quebec) was being interviewed, in French. The newscast showed French subtitles whenever Levesque spoke.

>>>Then again, many Quebecois did not consider Levesque a paragon of language. Nor Jean Chretien, for that matter :)

>Hey, I'm just reporting what my friend saw when Levesque showed up on French TV. I'll let the Quebec and French language academies sort out your differences :)

I don't doubt for a minute that the french did this subtitle thing. In those days they were still speaking "Real french". Snob it the first word that comes to me to describe their attitude. I'd be curious to know what was the percentage of french European people that understood what René Lévesque was saying.

>>To compare René Lévesque to Jean Chrétien for the quality of the language is just insane.

Ok so would this be a subset of frenglish? ;-)

By the way I don't know if you ever heard that one.

Jean Chrétien had a place to go in Canada and he told his mother about it. His mother replied "Where the f*ck's that?

So that's why Jean Chrétien wore a fox hat whe he got to his destination.

Perhaps you heard it before and with a better punch line. I just wanted you to know about it in case it's the first time you read it.
