The amount of interest MS gathered around:
the norwegian sex-sells attempt
the Surface device
the viral showing of the surface demo hitting a snag

show that MS still can evoke many viewers fast, but that they are perhaps less fannish than apple followers.
The device could answer most wishes I have from such a device:

HW detachable/optional keyboard
digital screen out for a large monitor
high speed port for external data (USB3 host, could give you LAN as well)
processing power clearly above Atom

now if the battery pack can be exchanged, that is about all I need.
I had thought about a Macbook or Airbook - nice devices and they give you
not only windows but some obscure OS counted after big cats ;-)
But the fixed battery cemented the negative decision.

But the above also shows the potential of failure MS has to a greater extent than Cupertino ;-)
