I decided for now to use regular timer. I added a check for the application being active (as in that thread). It seems to work this way - when I minimize the application, it seems to not do anything, but once I bring it back, the login form immediatelly pops up. I think it's OK enough behavior.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
