It is hard to say what Syrians really wants. Did you speak with some Syrians directly or you are driving conclusions based on what US/UK media got on their billboards ?
I would take wild guess that what most of Syrians want at this point is some peace and stability before anything else. There is armed struggle going there for very long time in which you have AL-Qaeda fighters (they become democracy propagators all of a sudden!) and whole host of other armed groups fighting against Syrian government. Pretty much similar to what happened in Lybia. However unlike Lybia which ended relatively quickly (and shamefully), what we are facing here is long Bosnia style civil war with dangerous regional and possibly world wide implications. 'Autocracy' of Syrian government is least of Syrian problems.
