>>A couple of years ago, my liver enzymes shot through the roof. My doctor had me scheduled for a CAT scan the next day. Think that happens in places where they have socialized medicine?
Socialized health schemes have no CAT scanners or modern equipment so most likely they'd take a history, conduct an examination, consider the differential diagnosis... and tell you to cut down on the booze. ;-)
Sorry, couldn't resist. ;-) Elevated liver enzymes isn't an immediate indication for a CT or any other sort of scan so I'm assuming that your physician was concerned about cancer- which would have gotten you next-day scanning in Europe too.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
