You know your situation and experience better that anyone here. If you want to use SQL Server, that is probably what you should use. If you don't want to use VFP to build the middle tier, you probably shouldn't. People tend to work better when they work with the tools they picked.

This is like anything though: Try a few things and see what you like the most initially. Do some test with large data sets and see what works best. Then decide. In four or five hours you can answer your own question and feel comfortable with your decision.
