>My daughter Emily, who makes me look like a piker in the dog lover department, has been after me to get a new dog. We had two dogs -- actually at one point we had three until the original, Sydne, died of old age -- which I had to give away last summer when I was working in St. Louis and the girls went back to college. The new owners were carefully vetted and I know they are in good homes. (Good luck selling that to Emily. "You don't know that," she said coldly the last time it came up). I would love to have another dog, or better yet two, but am holding off for now because I don't know where I will be. Allie basically lives in Milwaukee now and Emily's summer visits, which are very pleasant, will be winding down in a few weeks when she starts her sophomore year. The girlfriend is gone and there is not a whole lot keeping me in Round Lake. There is definitely a new chapter of my life coming up, I just don't know what it will be. But I bet there is going to be a dog in there somewhere.

TBH I'm not a dog lover but I can see they can give great companionship.

But why anyone would have a dog like a pit bull is beyond me. My local park has had a lot of incidents of attack dogs attacking other peoples "normal" dogs.

I don't know how you're fixed financially but perhaps a bit of travelling might be in order. Maybe you should give that WOOFING a go.
