Peripherally, that phrase always bugs me. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results may be true of insanity but it is not the definition.

But Title IX? You seriously think that is the explanation of problems in our public school system? It's purpose was very simple, to put women on a level playing field with men. Its biggest impact has probably been in sports. And teaching is about the last place I would look for discrimination against women. It has always been a go-to profession for women. It has also been traditionally low paid. I think we should get down on our knees every night and thank god that so many smart, committed women are teachers who often make about as much as nannies.

We are in complete agreement that teachers should not be raising our children. It still happens, though, because by nature they are not inclined to turn their backs on needy children.

It's a cliche but I wish teachers could be paid according to their true contribution to society. I was shocked and appalled by some of the comments in Wisconsin last year in the hoo-ha after Governor Walker took an axe to Wisconsin teachers. The public reaction, in a state that has historically been progressive, knocked me for a loop. Walking away from a labor agreement without negotiation was not the worst part. The worst part was how many people agreed with him. "Summers off." "Part time workers." "Excessive benefits." It still boggles my mind that teachers caught the wrath of free floating economic anxiety.

>You can try and spin this anyway you want but I think the graphs are quite telling. Teacher count is drastically going up and the outcome has been static or slightly lower. My sister in law is a teacher and her take on the problem is no discipline, they’ve created such a bureaucracy that it’s difficult to actually make progress, and last, parents seem to think the teachers should be raising their kids. Ever since the Feds stepped in with title 9 and other programs, the cost of education has increased significantly and the results have not. The solution I keep hearing is more teachers. So what is the definition of insanity?????

>>That's a rather skewed picture of the stats if you ask me.
>>Student/teacher ratios do not provide a direct measure of class size. The ratio is determined by dividing the total number of full-time-equivalent teachers into the total student enrollment. These teachers include classroom teachers; prekindergarten teachers in some elementary schools; art, music, and physical education teachers; and teachers who do not teach regular classes every period of the day.

>>It is a proven fact that students do better in smaller classes.

>>So yes, I think more CLASSROOM teachers will help. Oh and some better training for teachers wouldn't hurt matters either.
>>
>>>Do you really think more teachers will help?
