I am a big fan of books and bookstores but have no sympathy for Borders. They deserved to go out of business. Their two main categories were books and CDs, which had both been revolutionized by discounters like Amazon, and they kept on trying to sell for full retail price. Continuing to do business as usual was about as smart as a jackal ignoring an onrushing lion.
UPDATE: My favorite bookstore ever, anywhere, was Tattered Cover in Denver. I don't know but bet they have found ways to stay in business.
