I've been away for a while, in the interim I've ditched my husband & changed my name (a good thing) left my previous job abruptly (a bad thing) got a new job (a good thing) where they use 2.5 or 2.6 (a new thing -- I went from DBASE IV via FoxBase 2.0 on the Mac to VFP 3.0). It's been an exciting few months and on the whole I'm better off <g>

My question is this: Most of what we are doing is file conversion, queries and reports on imports to/exports from a proprietary system. There are plans to convert/incorporate an Oracle-based datawarehouse. This is is not going to happen overnight, there are many issues facing it.

Given this situation, is there any compelling reason to upgrade to VFP 5.0 (or 6.0 even) right now, or can I leave this particular can of worms unopened until we want to play with Oracle and/or use an intranet to run queries and extracts?

Speed is also a big issue for us, we use PC Anywhere to dial up remotely to some of our regional offices and do the downloads -- the nationwide corporate WAN is still not a reality <g>. Will we gain perfomrance by switching to VFP6.0? (Of course we'll have to go from Win3.1 to Win95, but that's part of yet another issue)

This is all new to me, I'm used to having the technology I want, or else being able to get it easily. Ho Hum, a new day, a new challenge!!

Jen
