And to add... nothing is really new. People rave about JQuery, but it's really just a bunch of javascript, things that people have been doing for years. Design Patterns existed long before they were cataloged by the Gang of Four. SOLID was not created by "Uncle" Bob Martin (and he didn't even coin the phrase SOLID) but he was the first person to pull together and document those principles.
