>>If I could change two things in American politics, these would be it.
>>
>>1. Term limits on United States Congress. We must get these lifer politicians out of office. They are responsible for the stagnation of our country. They are the ones most owned by special interests. They do not work for us.
>>
>>2. Vote by Ranking. Instead of getting to vote for one person (in most cases the least worst candidate), you rank the candidates in order of preference. This is the only way to get rid of our dismal 2-party system and bring real change via 3rd party candidates. By ranking candidates, your vote for a 3rd party candidate isn't "wasted".

>>With these 2 simple changes maybe, just maybe, we can actually bring about real change and reclaim our country from the phonies on both sides of the aisle.

>Term limits is an appealing thought in some ways. There is definitely a propensity to become the in-pocket pols we all hate. But I am uncomfortable with strict term laws. In many cases the most long term are the wisest, the guides to their successors. Should Bruce Springsteen be barred from performing because he's been doing it too long? Should Amy Tan or John Irving be barred from writing more books?

I think the point that's trying to be made is that the founding fathers despised the idea of 'professional' politicos and never wanted such. That's why the original positions were not paid and Congress was meant to be held during 'down time' from the REAL jobs.

Comparing career Senators and Reps to Springsteen or Irving is definately comparing apples and bananas
