>>Why do you need to force the Classic theme?
>>Windows XP has 3 other visual styles (themes): olive, silver and blue.
>>All of them will make your app looks according to the OS in use.
>Some possible reasons people might use Classic theme:
>1. Performance -- w/ older systems the XP theme is slower than Classic theme (though in some caes you can use TweakUI and turn varous visual effects like fading, sliding, etc.)
>2. Low colour depth -- gradients look terrible as you get colour banding. Remote desktop will often run with reduced colour depth to reduce bandwidth usage.
>3. Classic theme uses less pixels for stuff like borders menu bars, system buttons, etc. That means you get more room for content. Especially important if you've got lower resolution, or running in Large Font mode (which has a similar effect of lowering video resolution in terms of amount of content you can fit in a given physical area).
>4. Personal preference -- some folks find the XP theme to be too "cartoony" with the bright colours (of course you could aways adjust this -- but it takes time to tweak to one's own liking).
This pretty much sums it all up.........
Most of our customers WERE running with older PC's.... they are now being upgraded when possible with newer PC's with ... get this.... 1 GIG of ram.... sigh.......... so you can see where I'm coming from.....
