>That's one construction. Another would be that in 2012 there is no excuse not to predict how human beings behave if they have nothing to lose and are able to mobilize. If you're worried about cost, bringing in the troops is an even more expensive way to prevent revolt (as well as eroding the loyalty of the troops if they are asked to stand against their own more than once) but the most expensive of all would be refusing to acknowledge the lessons of history at all.

>We will just have to agree to disagree. It seems to me that you believe in the collective and I believe in the individual.

My selfish individual interest is that the redistribution from the middle and the low towards the rich stops within my lifetime, the banks and corporations either vanish or get seriously leashed (if not lashed), so that the scenario for the masses who recognize they got nothing to lose but their chains coming up your door and kindly explaining that it's them who were blackmailed into accepting chinese salaries on american cost of living, and keep the pitchforks kindly a few feet away, not in front of your nose.

I'd be so happy to have such scenes delayed indefinitely, but the drunken financial barons seem to be playing va bank.
