I received a call from a recruiter on Monday who wanted to know if I had experience with FoxPro 9 Enterprise ;-) We didn't talk for long because he was fixated on the (lowball) rate the client wants to pay. With out of town expenses, which the client will not participate in, I wouldn't have been making any money, and I said so to him. He said that's OK, I already have candidates in the target rate range. Apparently we're all interchangeable robots with hourly rates pinned to our chests. And people wonder why some headhunters have bad reputations....

Yeah, I used to run into that when I contracted back in the 80's. My standard response was "Ok, hire that person at 10$/Hr and in 6 months you'll be calling me back to come fix what they wrote - and then the price will be 60$/hr." My standard rate, at that time, was 45$/hr
