During the first two weeks things were off, but not terribly in my opinion. Week 3 was a fiasco which culminated with the single worst officiated game of the year unfolding during prime time coverage of a very competitive game which kept people watching right up through the final play when the replacements put the cherry on top by blowing the call on the field, blowing the review and then standing around looking like bafoons for 15 minutes until they could get the teams back on the field for the extra point.

Memo to Rodger, the NFL is not immune to the same things that brought down the NHL, NBA, MLB, Boxing and horse racing. You are not different or unique, people will start watching something else if you destroy the quality of your product.
