That's what happened in Illinois. George Ryan was not a great governor (we have a rich tradition of rotten and/or incarcerated governors here in Illinois) but he deserves a tip of the hat for banning state executions, a ban that still stands.

I know I have been running off at the mouth about "The West Wing" lately. Have you watched it? Brilliant show. I am already watching it the second time through and rewatched a great episode from the first season yesterday which was focused on the death penalty. No spoilers. It's called "Take This Sabbath Day." It's not a spoiler to say the guy who played Richie Aprile on "The Sopranos" has a cameo role as a rabbi.
