November 5 must have been the day for invalid databases! Since I didn't get an answer to my thread "Invalid DBC--Probelm ??" which I posted that same day I went to search to look for "invalid database" which led me here!

"VALIDATE DATABASE RECOVER" fixed my problem (the database seemed to lack a reference to one index in one table even though the index was present). This was certainly painless compared to deleting and redefining nine tables in my database.

And the "invalid database" message was definitely a red herring to my other problem. The table I was having trouble with had nothing to with the table that got fixed.

For the record, the invalid database often produced the message "A stored procedure is executing." This went away whenever I could make the DBC valid.
