I just googled and I found one guy saying that upon installation it will ask you if you run 32 bit automation, but we just tried to install office 64 in Windows 2012 Server (64 bits) and we neither got the question asked nor we could find an option on the installation options

Hugo I cannot remember anything special and there is no such question being asked in my installation. If memory serves me correctly - I bought a new laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. I purchased and installed Office 2010. You have to do something specific to get the 64 bit installed, not the default setup from the CD. Please see this link near the bottom:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/choose-the-32-bit-or-64-bit-version-of-office-HA010369476.aspx

I might have installed the 32 bit version first by accident, then uninstalled it when I realised it was not the 64 bit I wanted, then reinstalled the 64 bit. This is a possibility but I am not sure now anymore.

I am running version 14.0.6123.5001 (64 bit). Task manager shows Excel running as 64 bit application.

I have not tested on Windows 2012 Server as per your email - just Windows 7.

Anyway, MS themselves recommend the default 32 bit version even on 64 bit machines. I read somewhere that the 64 bit version will only really make a difference with huge spreadsheets. But I wanted to make sure our apps worked with it just in case our users moved to 64 bit Office. Some of them have and they have not reported any problems either. We do a fair amount of automation in our apps.
In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends - Martin Luther King, Jr.
