Open Internet Explorer>Select Internet Options from the drop down menu under Tools>Select Advanced> Scroll down to Multimedia> Check mark the option “Play sounds in WebPages”.

>Recently the sound stopped working on my computer in both Firefox and IE. The speakers and headphones are fine. There is no problem playing a CD or hearing Windows sounds, it's just in the browsers. From my online research this is a fairly common problem so maybe someone knows. I AM NOT ASKING ANYONE TO DO MY RESEARCH FOR ME. I can do that and have been. It's just that there are such a dizzying variety of suggestions, for different OSes, etc. that I am hoping for a shortcut, a dead-bang answer from someone I know. This is Windows 7.
