That only works if you use a login script and assign the user's login id to the environment variable "USR" in the script. That is not the standard behavior of the Novell default login script, and wouldn't happen under any circumstance if login script processing were disabled, or your primary login was to an NT domain controller rather than Novell's Client32 or Microsft's CLient for NetWare.
