Yeah. Last campaign was definitely much more interesting. There was at least perception of possible change for better in US politics.
When Obama won I was really happy. Scenes from Washington inauguration where almost 1M of people celebrated victory (and genuinely thinking things will change as promised) reminded me almost of Belgrade 2001 victory when people celebrated fall of Milosevic. It was almost surreal feeling that new history is happening right in front of our eyes. Down of new era... (Naive/Romantic me {g})

Yeah right...

However, (as old fox Dragan warned very early back then) none of that change for better actually happened. As it turned out (in both cases!) it was all complete setup. All that positive energy and need for real change (which might have very well exploded into popular uprising back then) was brilliantly coerced and defused by 'Obama project'.
Guy seemed quiet genuine (maybe personally he indeed had some good intentions) and that decent and honest look (+good manners) indeed worked in attracting large masses of deeply frustrated people (by Bush2 era) to his side.
What a lucky casting catch for a role of president!. It all worked very well for rulers in Washington, Wall street banxters, large corporate monsters, military complex, intelligence/security underworld - everybody!

Except all those people who actually voted for (change personified in) Obama. They (you) got nothing!
(Unless you consider increased unemployment, mass evictions, tax funded bailouts, increased body counts from Afganistan/Iraq/Elsewhere as 'getting something') Everything remained exactly the same or become worse.

Lack of interest in these elections is actually hardly surprising. Who in the right mind want to be fooled all over again? If I was in US I would probably vote for Romney! That guy is not much better then Bush2, so he will at least keep true nature of regime in Washington much better exposed then all-out-nice Obama, who is actually providing them some sort of human face to show up front.

His (past) statement 'I am only thing that stand between you and a pitchforks' is not exactly far fetched I would say.
Next time, perhaps he should just quietly fade away (this might be exactly what he is doing right now by less then perfect campaign) and let Washington deal with next big wave of popular uproar by the likes of Romney or why not even Palin... {g}

BTW I do miss (Putin's nightmare!) Sarah Palin {g}. She was at least great fun (& sexy as well) :))
