>Some thirty or so years ago I read a research paper that pointed out the tremendous increase on productivity achieved when terminal response times were "sub-second", as they phrased it. That was in the day of dumb terminals hooked to mainframes with a serial connection, kind of like browsers, just dumber. Thirty years later browsers with an internet connection generally fail the sub-second test and aside from HTML input controls, that pale in contrast to desktop controls, the thousands of miles long connection is just too slow and inconsistent. I have faith the internet will eventually overcome most of these problems, probably in my lifetime.
A local desktop will always be as fast as or faster than a LAN, and both the LAN and the desktop will always be as fast as or faster than the Web.
That is logically inevitable, because the Web uses the desktop and in most cases the Web also uses the LAN.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
