A double has 8 bytes in memory and the precision for 8 bytes in float format is 15 digits (if conforms with the IEEE standards). 4 bytes in float format: 7 digits. C/C++'s long double format (10 bytes): 19 digits. I don't know if the precision is specified somewhere in the VFP docs.
