When you say "child grid" do you mean you are using the grid propery linkMaster? How are you setting up your relation? Could you switch to using a parameterized view for the grid recordsource? I've been making that transition recently, and while it is a struggle initially, I think it's been worthwhile.

If not please repost with detail of how you set up the data.
