Oil wasn't part of the equation during the Falklands war.

Great Britain considered the Falklands theirs, and the Falkland Islanders considered themselves British citizens.

When Argentina sent in their military to take control of the islands, Great Britain had to either put up or shut up re: their ability to protect their empire.

They did an excellent job considering the distance disadvantage.
