>Gee, the article stated that Whirlpool was going from Stainless Steel to White, as White would be a new color for refrigerators. It made me laugh because I remember my grandfathers 1938 Lyon Refrigerator, which was white. In the mid 1960’s the trend for refrigerator colors was avocado. About twenty years later they went back to white stating that avocado was a disgusting color! Then stainless steel was in vogue.

Ha! The fridges, stoves, washers etc are called "white technics" here, because they were always white, and guess what - all that we bought when we returned are white. Now here and there we see steel along with the white. Beige and other colors never caught root here.

But there's a side point to the futility of advertising and image shaping and whatnot that they employ to promote their sales (into a rank of captain, I guess). Toothpaste, razors, bread, soap, even brown sugar water - all have decades of production behind them, some even centuries. Yet the marketing parasites keep coming up with "new and improved". It would be interesting to compare the composition of today's toothpaste with that of 50 years ago... which is probably the reason the recipes are "industrial secret". The result of such comparison would probably show too many similarities, or even identity in some cases. Who knows how many times they recycled some old recipe as "new and improved" (which is, btw, an utter nonsense - if it was improved, then it's a version 1.1 or 2.0 of something, and only 1.0 is new, right?).

> As a nation we are at our best when we are at total war. That is not sustainable. Why can’t we improve the lot of our nation? We might try improving the situation in any way we can, but condemnation is not going to solve anything. Rather, it will make matters worse.

Since I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, I don't have a good vantage point. My wish is that the Fed be dismantled and replaced with "the buck stops here", i.e. that the Congress should start doing its job about issuing national money and stop borrowing from private banks. Gives the banks too much power, which is the most obvious root of all evil. Next year is the anniversary of this sick system, the hundredth one, may be a good time to do that. Then, make sure it isn't replaced with something even worse.
