If you want to know about the not too distant future, just keep an eye on the server/enterprise space. Anything new there usually trickles down to mere mortals in the "not too distant future".

The Register ( http://theregister.co.uk ) has decent ongoing coverage. The hacks at that e-rag pride themselves on their jaundiced corporate culture, so you usually get some hard nosed analysis and not just regurgitation of vendor press releases.
