>>>>But then, back when I was still using McAfee antivirus, I'd never had stuff get through that Norton antivirus would let through (co-worker was running it -- every other month I was cleaning out stuff on his computer. Didn't help matters when Norton would detect the infection two weeks *after* it's been infected -- then fail to remove it. Had to hook up drive to my computer and clean it out using McAfee..).

>>>McAffee got worse and worse as far as being a pig, but at least it actually did a fair job of picking off viruses. Norton was and is a pig, and we've made a lot of money cleaning virii off machines that were running up-to-date Norton/Symantec crap.
>>>
>>>Worse was the fact that Norton/Symantec infests a machine like a virus, and even Norton support numerous times told us we'd have to reformat a machine in order to get rid of it.
>>>
>>>These days that is all we will do if a customer brings us a machine with Norton on it. If they want our support, we'll start with a machine that has no trace of Norton or Symantec A/V. Our customers thank us.

I've been using MSE since adopting Win7 and have had no problem, though I still use the paid Malwarebytes as well and periodically run Hijackthis.

Combination seems to do a pretty good job of blocking attempts to contact potential dangerous websites etc.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
