I came from FORTRAN originally, so for me i and j (and sometimes k, if needed) are always FOR loop counters. I also tend to keep my 'throwaway' variables short [mfld = mfield, mcnt = mcount, etc] and yes, the 'm' comes from FoxBase which is where I started in the Fox world. For variables that have a longer life (ie, form level), I have gotten more descriptive with them, for example: Thisform.r_isExperimental or Thisform.r_ProcessCount.
