I use taskpane as my switchboard, to switch between projects. But I make environment manager the default pane, and make sure that on the community page, or whatever it's called, "refresh from the web" (or, again, whatever it says there - didn't take a look at it for years) is set to "never". Then it doesn't try to load content from the net, and doesn't have to wait out dead links.
