Good morning Gerard;

If you can, do in an depth research or have a definite plan in case you must revert back to your original operating system. I have been involved with computer design from 1981 and each time a new operating system is introduced, in most cases the architecture of the motherboard has had a least a few changes.

These changes often concern I/O at a minimum. This means it is possible that a new operating system cannot address your peripherals. At other times peripheral manufacturers will find it not profitable to write new drivers.

Just one example is when I went to Windows Vista several years ago. I had just purchased a new laser printer and scanner from HP, for use with my one year old XP machine, which died. My new computer was an HP, and as of this date HP has not written drivers for the Vista operating system, nor will they according to their service people. So I had to purchase a new laser printer and scanner.

So using an “older computer” with a new operating system can often be a problem. It is really a gamble to do so, but you might be lucky, and you will not know unless you give it a try.
