Their translation pricing is $20 per Megabyte.
https://developers.google.com/translate/v2/pricingIf you're a developer being paid $50/hr to do work, and it takes you four hours to implement a solution, that's $200.
For that same $200 your employer paid to you for work, they could've sent Google 10 Megabytes of text to translate.
Do you have 10 megabytes of text to translate? The book War and Peace has 560,000 words in English. At 5 characters per word on average, that's 2.8 million characters. You could translate War and Peace to another language almost 4 times for $200. This is really, really inexpensive for the service you get.
Sometimes buying the service isn't such a bad thing.
