Yes, if you enter a search word you can span many years.

But, if you omit a search word, and let's say you want to find all messages from a certain user between 2 dates, you can only specify a maximum of a 2-year span.

For instance, I was looking for all my own messages from the past 4 years (no search word in the filter). Can only do 2 years max this way.
