There is a software called MediaMonkey that is supposed to let you transfer music for iPhone but I had problems using it recently. Perhaps they didn't have a version for the OS of my iPod.

But like Phil said there is no charge when transferring music from iPhone to iTunes or from iTunes to iPhone.
