Yet in some of the Scandanavian countries where military service is required, you must provide your own rifle. When you're done with the service, you take your rifle back home. Chances are, you grew up in a home that had at least one, if not more, guns or rifles in it. Yet these countries have the fewest accidental deaths by gunshot, especially for children.

Could that be because kids are growing up knowing that rifle/gun is a tool and should be used appropriately? Maybe the fact that being around weapons not being treated as 'Oooooh, special and mysterious and you mustn't touch' doesn't make people want to pull them out to play? Or maybe it's just a well educated public about the safe handling of guns/rifles.

As far as gun control, most of the Scandanavian countries ban privately owned fully automatic assault weapons, which I'm amazingly ok with, have some restrictions on number of weapons owned or the caliber of the weapon (Desert Eagle .50's are RIGHT out), and all weapons must be licensed - again something I'm amazingly ok with.
