Well, Lianja has that exact vision.
Multiple OS already for desktop, major mobile/pad on the roadmap.
And yes, local cursors are the repository of remote data ;-)
Having a local data engine helps also if lookup data is kept locally ;-)

Yes, release dates were slipping.
But other stuff got integrated as well - and IMO useful stuff.
As the IT world is a much bigger place nowadays,
- and more budget driven as well -
it is unsure if it will reach a big market share, but the vision is there.

And much of the OOP coupling of data and programming that is taken for granted by vfp'ers
grew into the language under MS reign, same as the containership and other non POOPish stuff.
