When I try this with this x=code I get aliias grid1 not found - grid1 is my grid on this form

thisform.Lockscreen=.T.
lnGridHeight=grid1.height
grid1.height=20 && You may have to change this value
Locate for TRIM(custref)=jjij
Grid1.height=lnGridHeight
thisform.Lockscreen=.F.

Your other idea I didn't understand
