Interesting - thanks

I hope your M6700 will be ok. When I bought my 6500 two years ago it would freeze intermittently No BSOD, but just freeze.
The only thing left was to reboot.
No problems during several days, then one or two freezes the next day

They replaced the CPU and the memory twice, had me install a hotfix from MS.
I replaced the video driver
The whole thing went on for at least 3 months. Those cases are hard I guess
Each time they replaced the CPU, I had to completely reinstall the box

Looked like a known problem see long thread http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19336090.aspx?PageIndex=1

I wonder what would have happened in case I had replaced the memory
