>We had a problem in Vietnam with the M16 rifle. We were told, “No one hit with a .223 from a M16 has lived”! That was poured into our heads to be sure we felt like invincible teenagers. It would jam and that cost many American lives. The AR 15 (the civilian model) seems to continue that tradition. I have noted that three recent events using AR 15’s (one in Portland, Oregon, Colorado, etc.) have jammed when the shooter was in the process of killing innocent people. It has lead me to question what would have happened if the shooters used AK47’s? That rifle has been around since the mid 1940’s and is far superior to the M16/AR15.

>I bet some people would consider me to be anti American or a Communist for daring to suggest that our weapon of choice is not the finest in the world. But then I think of all the guys who died in Vietnam because of it, and the people that did not die because of AR15's jamming.

>Better yet, I would like to see no weapons. I got rid of all mine years ago.

I had friends that had AR-15s that swore by them. I've fired them many times w/o a jam. I just didn't like the .223 round.

I much prefer a little more punch. My all-time favorite was an FN-LAR (.308) which was so accurate we started to think it was haunted (I could bull's-eye targets at ranges where I literally couldn't see the bull's-eye). Never jammed or had any other issues. I sold it about a year before the scary looking gun ban (passed by morons) went into effect when I needed some cash. (damn)

I still have my 30-06s - an M1 Garand and an 03-A3 Springfield. Big and heavy, but accurate.

I have an HK-91 .308, which probably is a great assault weapon in close quarters if it had burst or full auto, but other than that it isn't that accurate.

Also have an Enfield Mk III .303 on an aftermarket stock. Accurate and hard hitting but kicks like a mule on the lightweight stock.

All are easy rounds to reload except for the HK rounds - the HK chews the necks of the brass so bad I sell them for scrap.

Anyway, those are some of my alternatives for fighting at range. I have lots of others for shorter ranges.

I'm not interested in becoming a victim.
