>>>>>>I think I just figured it out. My point remains true but I just plain don't like Tom Cruise. I used to. "The Firm" in particular is one of my favorite movies. But as time went on it became an increasingly open secret that he is gay. I have no problem with homosexuals per se. I think they're born that way. What I don't like is him staying in the closet for career reasons.

>>>>>I don't like Tom Cruise either, but it has nothing to do with his sexuality (and this is the first I've heard this rumor). It's about his behavior, in particular his claims that there's no such thing as post-partum depression and his disdain for mental health care.

However, when it comes to the Jack Reacher books being made into movies, I may have to try really really hard to pretend it's not Tom Cruise on the screen :) If the movie is not up to par, there won't likely be more anyway. That's what happened with the One for the money movie. Complete disappointment.

>>>Have you read a lot of them? I am a big fan. It's fair to say they follow a pattern -- Reacher shows up out of nowhere, no car, no baggage, and comes to the aid of someone in trouble -- but it's a winning pattern. I buy all the books as soon as they come out.

>>>Thank you for speaking up for me the other day, BTW. It was appreciated. Same to Charles.

>>Wait a minute! Did I hear right??? Tom Cruise as the always deadly, 6' 5" Jack Reacher? Whose idea was that (and why)? And how come they passed up on Danny DeVito?

>He was not available. Tied up on "The Wilt Chamberlain Story"

Before he died (of course) I used to nominate Gary Coleman for every role that came up. Used to drive my mother crazy.

I don't know if you ever finished 'Sot Weed', but I told her that if they ever made it into a movie, I wanted Gary Coleman for Henry Burlingame III. Talk about casting!
