I am 6' 7" and my wife is 5' 2". In 1978 our home was broken into, the inside ruined, windows broken, and everything of value taken, including my pistols and rifles. It took the police six hours to show up. I asked what if we were home and I shot and killed the people who broke in? The police said I would go to jail for murder but if my wife killed them it would be self defense.

28 days later, we had repainted the inside, replaced a few of the items taken and our home was broken into again. One month later my wife gave birth to our first child. We sold the house and I cannot tell you the feeling this experience gave us! It makes me feel bad that my guns are in the hands of who knows who and might be used against another person. It gave me the feeling that you should own nothing.

>>>>>>So the argument is that if someone breaks into your house and you shoot them then it is better to be sure of killing them in case they turn out to be unarmed and sue ?
>>>>>
>>>>>If someone breaks into your home do you really want to play 20 questions to find out his intent and what arms he has?
>>>>
>>>>Yes. I'd rather ask questions first.
>>>
>>>You can be a statistic. That is your choice.
>>>
>>>>I've answered your question - you didn't answer mine.
>>>
>>>I'm not going to shoot to wound. That looks and works great on TV. In reality that means shoot and miss. I don't care if they are unarmed. It wasn't my stupidity that made them invade my home, and it's not my responsibility. I'd rather eliminate the evidence than play in court.
>>>
>>>That answer your question?
>>
>>Only partially. So given three options
>>(a) Don't shoot
>>(b) Shoot to scare/ wound
>>(c) Shoot to kill
>>then you would always choose (c)?
>>Also I wasn't aware that the penalty for stupidity is death.... :-}

>If it was very clear there was no threat to me/my family, I wound not shoot.
>
>As I said, if I shoot I'll shoot to kill.

>BTW, last week we had 2 Topeka police officers killed in the line of duty while investigating a suspicious vehicle. They approached a vehicle with 3 men inside. As is procedure, they did not have guns drawn and were probably trying to assess the situation.
>
>The man in the back shot both officers in the head.
>
>I don't know if they managed to ask all 20 questions.
>
>And this is just during a traffic stop. Not when someone is deliberately violating my home or threatening harm.
